My first couple of tries didn’t work out so well and now I’m thinking about just frogging the whole thing and knitting something a little longer and looser with the yarn.

Get yourself a copy of Knitting from the Top by Barbara Walker and follow her guidelines for making a nice neckline that’s lower in front and higher in back, and your BPT will turn out a lot better than mine :)
