Betsy and Tacy Go Downtown

Finished! You can download all chapters from the Maud Hart Lovelace page:

or you might want to subscribe to these books as podcasts with the following RSS links: (typo in podcast feed is fixed so Chapter 2 should appear if you re-subscribe)

That’s my preferred method of audiobook-listening because a) it’s so easy and b) most podcast apps will automatically set a bookmark when you stop listening so you’ll never lose your place. Most podcast apps will also allow you to skip forward and backward by reasonable amounts (unlike music players) and set a sleep timer.

I prefer Bookmobile by Freshmowed. It’s extraordinarily full-featured and therefore has a steep learning curve, but once you figure it out, WOW, it’ll do everything but braid your hair.

Overcast is another good option. You can even use Apple’s built-in “Podcasts” app in a pinch. (Android users — what’s your favorite podcast app that works well for audiobooks?)

Whichever app you use, you’ll copy the url that ends with .xml for the book you want. Then find the place in your podcast app where you can “subscribe with url” or “subscribe with RSS” and paste that link in. Tell your app to download all chapters and *never delete them* (if you’re using Apple’s “Podcasts” app there’s a setting for this in the “settings” app on your phone). Make sure they’ll play in the right order. If they’re mixed up, you may be able to order them manually or make a playlist, depending on your app — but they’ll probably be fine if you tick either “oldest to newest” or “newest to oldest” (again, this depends on your app).

Let me know if you need screenshots of this process in one of the three apps I mentioned.

Happy listening! :) Shall I continue on with Betsy and Tacy? In the next book, Heaven to Betsy, the girls are 14 and about to enter highschool!

Thank you so much for Downtown! You cannot imagine how happy a little 5 year old girl in California is! And her momma.

I was wondering if I somehow missed Chapter 2 though for Downtown. I can’t seem to find it in the podcast.

Also I would we would love Heaven to Betsy at some point too! I would love to listen to it even when my little one isn’t ready yet. :) thank you again so much for blessing us!

    Hi Zinnia,

Wow thank you so much for letting me know about the missing chapter! I had a typo in my podcast feed. Try re-subscribing. Chapter 2 should be there now! You might need to fight with your podcast app a little bit… or delete and resubscribe. :)

I’m in a train right now and luckily have enough cell service to connect my laptop to the internet and get into my server and edit that podcast file!

Thank you so much! I just subscribed again and it worked! Thanks for doing it so fast!

Hi! I’m glad to see you’ve done another Betsy Tacy book! My seven year old has been listening to the first three over and over for months. I’m in the midst of downloading the chapters individually, but I’m having trouble with chapter 11. Can you help… please? Thanks!

Hi Carla, you found a typo! I think I fixed it — please reload the page and have another try. Thank you so much for reporting it! <3

Thank you so much for doing another Betsy-Tacy book! :) I listened to your other recordings a while ago when I was sick, and after getting my niece the first four books for Christmas I remembered I still hadn’t commented and thought I’d have a look at your other recordings as well, since I’m on the hunt for some more audiobooks. Never expected to find another from the B-T series so I’m really, really chuffed. Really appreciate all your hard work. :) ? Absolutely love these books and your recordings of them.

I can not thank you enough for all of these lovely recordings – I’m on our 8th reading of the Treasury and while I genuinely adore reading these books immensely I was still relieved to find mp3s that our daughter can play on her Yoto Player independently. You’re a lifesaver!
