May 4 – a gift for my little niece
One of my favorite picture books when I was very little was Richard Scarry’s “Busy Busy World” (first half of the hardback “Going Places). I know my little not-yet-born niece won’t be ready for it for a couple of years, but I recorded it for her anyway, and YOU get to listen to it too! I really hope you can buy or borrow the real book, ’cause the pictures are half the fun. Of course it’s out of print and VERY pricy used on Amazon. Sigh.
I recorded all thirty-three stories into one 45-minute file, which you can download here:

Also, just to be fancy I created an m4b file, which has chapters in it so you can skip to your favorite stories, at least you can if you use iTunes or an iOS device:

Which stories are your favorites? :) I’m very fond of Glip and Glop, the Greek Painters; Schtoompah, the Funny Austrian; Schmudge, the German Chimney Sweep; Mario, the Venetian Gondolier; and Hans, the Dutch Plumber. Oh and Dr Krunchchew the Russian Dentist!

I love listening to your audiobooks. I have a 45 minute commute each way so listening to your books keeps me calm in rush hour traffic. I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains but commute to San Jose. Recently you got me addicted to the “Dark is Rising” series. I loved Greenwich, and The Dark is Rising and I started to listen to The Grey King but unfortunately it won’t download. No matter how hard I try it doesn’t work. I was able to get the first couple of chapters and then nothing. An exclaimation mark shows up next to the arrow to download but no explaination for the exclaimation, very frustrating! Can you help me? I would love to finish the book and I love your voice!

Hi Dianna,
Gosh I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to you! WordPress didn’t tell me that you had commented.
The Grey King plays fine for me… Try again maybe? Maybe the server was down last time you tried. That book is hosted here:

So you could try downloading directly.

Hi there! I have been recording on LV since January and I got a similar idea to use my new found skills to record a book so my grandma can listen. Also my mom did a few books for my niece. My question is, are there CD players that can play the songs or is there a way to burn in that format? She got it to play on the computer and car, but I’d love for her to play it on a CD player. Any tips would be nice. :D

Yeah, ask your CD burning software to make an “audio CD” — that should work in any CD player! However, an audio CD is limited to about 80 minutes of audio, so you’ll need to burn multiple CDs for every book you record. Have fun recording! :)
