Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I sat in Dan’s workroom and played WoW on my new laptop (it works acceptably well if you turn the graphics settings all the way down) and we listened to Loveline.  I made a feast in the afternoon — mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce (homemade, not the stuff in a can), stuffing, and a couple of cornish game hens.  Yummy.  And then a bit later we drove down to Chloe’s house for a visit and to help them get ready for the show.  We listened to music (FabFour Christmas stuff, hilarious) and talked, and I worked on Henry’s cloak and my green sock, and Dan changed guitar strings and went over the technical things he’ll have to do at the show.  We had a wonderful time with them as usual.  It’s nice when family members are also really good friends.  Stayed there until about 1:15 and then drove home on the nice empty freeway.

I found homemade cranberry sauce last year (meaning I finally made some), and it is infinitely better, and oh so easy! I don’t know why more people don’t make it.

Heh, yeah, it’s easier than opening a can! And so good.

For those who don’t know — buy a bag of fresh cranberries (every grocery store has them in the produce section thsi time of year). Dump them into a saucepan with 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Boil for about five minutes, stirring, until the cranberries pop and it looks like sauce. YUM!

Yes, I discovered how easy that is awhile back. But my family always makes me open a can of the Ocean Spray jelly (The kind that comes out of the can in a can-shaped roll which you then slice.) This year I forgot about it though.

You can also do the same basic thing except substitute orange juice for half the water. And you can also add cinnamon for a little spicy flair.

Apparently Ken has a recipe for a cranberry pear ginger sauce that is really good. I never remember that until Thanksgiving morning though, when it’s too late.
