Drove back up to Union City to pick up refills from pharmacy, do a bit of sewing, and await another delivery of medication. When I picked up my refills I found that my doc prescribed something for my newly-developed RLS (restless leg syndrome) — carbidopa-levodopa, which is a drug for Parkinsons but apparently helps RLS too. Wish me luck. RLS sounds nothingy but is surprising awful.
I finished lengthening Em’s nighties, fixed the pockets on a pair of Dave’s shorts, and sewed another pair of boyshorts for myself.
Drove up to Union City today to await a UPS delivery of very important meds, and while I was there I did a lot of sewing. Lengthened two more nighties for Em, made two more placemats, and four napkins to match.
I seem to have moved in with Dave, so from now on “home” refers to Dave-and-Kara’s apartment, and “up north” will refer to the house in Union City. Most of my STUFF is still up north — books, yarn, sewing — because Dave’s stuff is still in boxes. But I’m bringing things down a bit at a time, and I’ll still be spending some time up north because I want to hang out with Em (and I need to childmind her when her parents have rehearsals) and keep seeing lovely Suzanne (The Best Therapist Ever) and Dr Nguyen (The Best Primary Care Doctor Ever) so I’ll keep paying rent and use my room as storage :D
I drove home this morning to bring in mail, take out bins, water plants, feed fish, and do some sewing. Made two nice blue-striped linen placemats. And then I went back to Dave’s again :D
I had a lot more energy today! I made Cauliflower Cheese for lunch and then we did a Target and Lowe’s run, and now Dave is swapping cars with a friend so she can use his van to haul her paintings home from an exhibition.
Forgot to say — I love every Bake Off contestant (as usual) but especially Jürgen, Giuseppe, and Maggie (so far). Such a wonderful variety of people this season!
We did a Big Shop at Trader Joe’s and bought all the food. Then I was exhausted so we came home and I lay down while Dave put everything away, and then he lay down with me and we got caught up on all the new shows: Extra Slice, Survivor, Taskmaster, and Strictly Come Dancing (I love every contestant)! Dave is fun to watch shows with *heart eyes*
We watched the first ep of the new season of Bake Off tonight! Such a great cast. I want everyone to win, but i have a soft spot for Maggie (Prue’s secret twin) and German Jörgen.
Dave bought me a second Inogen At Home oxygen concentrator so I can have enough air when I’m staying with him. It was delivered today so now I’m all set.
Got some good sewing done today! Lulu’s warm blue outfit is finished except for neckband and cuffs. Also, since I need undies, I experimented with altering a European-style boxershorts pattern to fit me like boyshorts — worked GREAT!
A crew spent the day resurfacing our street. Smooth and nice now.
Lengthened a nightie for Em (one of serveral that I made when she was only four) and cut out a whole comfy warm outfit for Lulu. Ready to sew tomorrow!
Can’t stay at Dave’s forever (don’t have my sewing machine and yarn, for one thing) so home again today. It was an excellent three-day sleepover and proof that we get along very well even for days on end.
Look at that sweet man and his fuzzy face and his kind, intelligent eyes. Ich liebe ihn sehr viel.
Lulu started her two-days-a-week, 100% outdoor Forest Preschool today! I’m so thrilled that she gets to spend entire days playing outside with a very small group of kids. She will absolutely thrive, I’m sure.
We got a lot done today. Dave brought the new dining table in from the van, re-assembled it, and put all the cardboard and packaging back in the van to drop off in the recycling bin at his industrial unit. Meanwhile I did laundry and washed up a few dozen glasses and dishes (dusty from being packed away) and found places for them in the cupboards.
Then, since I was quite tired after a rough night (hot/cold/hot/cold, RLS, and up 4 times to pee), we napped and talked all afternoon.
The apartment is almost all set up! Just waiting on delivery of a mattress and the couch and recliners. It’s so peaceful here.
Busy day! Got my flu shot this morning at a quick and easy drive-through event in my doctor‘s parking lot. Then home to tidy my room and pack my overnight bag in anticipation of spending the night at Dave’s new apartment!
Dave showed up about 11:30 and we took Sal and Em to lunch so Sal could get acquainted with Dave — I am so eager to introduce him to everyone in my family! She loves him of course.
Then we dropped Em at home and took Sal to the airport, then went to Dave‘s favorite furniture store in search of a kitchen table and bedside lamps. Found an attractive small table and chairs that will fit into his little dining nook and a couple of fabulous bedside lamps that have an interesting industrial look with copper-plated shade, USB port, and charging mat for newer phones! I didn’t even know my phone could do that. So cool!
He has a big van but we couldn’t fit everything in, so we took the lamps and chairs home first, then went back for the table.
Both exhausted now, so time for dinner and our first sleepover *heart eyes*
Therapy in the morning and a stop at Trader Joe’s. I realized I hadn’t seen my purple cardigan lately and thought about when I last had it… probably last Sunday when Dave and I went to lunch. So I went over to Blue Ginger and there it was, folded nicely and waiting for me. As long as I was there anyway I splurged on lunch to go — mutter paneer, rice, and a naan. So fresh, hot, chewy! Gave half my naan to Em and Sal, ate half my meal for lunch and half for dinner. Yummm….
Lulu needs winter clothes so I ordered some beautiful 95% cotton/ 5% lycra jersey from knitfabric.com. Four yards royal blue, four yards purple. I usually buy such stuff from thefabricfairy.com but they were out of stock on the colours that Lulu likes.
It arrived today! I’ve washed and dried it and am ready to begin creating beautiful warm outfits for my lovely girl *heart eyes*
Picked Mom up from airport in the morning (full hour of driving) and still had enough energy to do some sewing (shorts for Dave, mending for Mom (yes she flies her mending up to me)) AND watch two eps of Steven Johnson’s excellent documentary, “Extra Life”.
Absolutely astonishing to be able to do so many things in one day. Please give a big hand to the scientists who created treprostinil in time for me to benefit from it.
If you get the chance, try the new BBC comedy, The Cleaner, which is written by and starring Greg Davies. It’s not laugh-out-loud funny, but it’s amusing and quirky and warm. Each ep is like a two-character play. Superbly written and acted.
I’ve also been watching The North Water, which is unspeakably grim and hard to watch in every possible way, but beautifully created, great cast, compelling story. Not a jolly show, but a memorable one.
Tired again today. Did nothing. Sigh.
Oh! Today is our three-month anniversary. I love you, Dave *heart eyes*
I tried something else at our Indian restaurant today: mattar paneer, which is peas in spicy tomato sauce with chunks of paneer (a cheese with the general look and texture of tofu). SO GOOD.
Slept late, went to Farmers’ Market for tomatoes, discovered they have a system whereby I can use my EBT card (food stamps) to buy fruits and veggies! Nice man in a booth swipes my card for however much I might spend, and gives me fake money to give to the farmers! And they even DOUBLE it (up to $15) so I had him swipe $15 and got $30 farmer bucks! And they don’t expire, and the farmers get the full value. So wonderful!
It rained a tiny bit overnight! When I left the house to run to the store this morning I was shocked to see a blue sky and smell the clean air. It has been so bad for so long.
Went to Sprouts, got green apples, goat cheese, my favorite bread (Dave’s 21 grain), mayo, and Cheddar Bunnies for Em. Got a box for myself, too.
And then I was rather tired so didn’t do much the rest of the day.
